You are what you eat
The food we eat has a profound impact on our health. What we eat can either make us healthy or sick. In recent years, there has been a growing concern about the quality of our food supply. Many Americans are now suffering from obesity and malnutrition at the same time.

The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a national survey of health and nutrition in the United States, reported that the percentage of people Americans who are obese increased from 30.5% to 41.9%, while the prevalence of severe obesity increased from 4.7% to 9.2%.
Democratic health advocate Lisa McCormick is calling on federal lawmakers to help make improvements in the environment and food supply to make Americans more healthy.
Among the main culprits behind this problem are McDonald's and other fast food chains. These companies have been polluting our food supply with unhealthy ingredients, such as processed meats, high-fructose corn syrup, and artificial additives. These ingredients have been linked to a number of health problems, including obesity, heart disease, and cancer.
In addition to fast food, big agricultural corporations are also contributing to the problem. These corporations use intensive farming practices that pollute our water supply and soil with pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. These chemicals can also make their way into our food supply, harming our health.

New Jersey Democrat Lisa McCormick today condemned Ted Cruz and Rick Scott for favoring an open border policy that would allow immigrants to enter the United States without a visa after making so much noise about refugees whose plight was worsened by the Republicans' exploitive rhetoric.
“Ted Cruz and Rick Scott are out of touch with the concerns of most Americans,” said McCormick. “They favor an open border policy that puts our national security at risk and makes it easier for criminals and terrorists to enter our country.”
McCormick cited a letter that Cruz and Scott signed urging the Biden administration to include Israel in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).
The senators asked the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security to admit Israel into the program which allows individuals from participating countries to travel to the United States for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa. The two countries in mid-July signed a memorandum of understanding setting the conditions for Israel's entry into the U.S. Visa Waiver Program.

During the National Conference of State Legislatures summit in Indianapolis, former Vice President Mike Pence announced his states’ rights-focused campaign platform but a prominent liberal Democrat in New Jersey challenged his proposal, which she called a 'plan to kill Americans.'
“As a former governor, I know that states are not subsidiaries of Washington, D.C. States are not subordinate departments of the federal government,” Pence said. “Our 50 states are the very foundation of our Republic.”
“When states are free, America thrives,” said Pence but this was disputed by Lisa McCormick, the progressive New Jersey Democrat who challenged US Senator Bob Menendez in the 2018 Democratic primary election.
"States' rights is an antiquated political philosophy that was intended to hinder the power of the United States government to vanquish slavery," said McCormick, who explained that "Vesting the majority of political power in states instead of Washington, D.C. might have been workable in the 1800s but it is a silly notion in the 21st century."
"The Supremacy Clause of the Constitution of the United States says federal laws take priority over any conflicting state laws," said McCormick. "In 1819, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall asserted that the federal government is supreme, superseding state power whenever there was a conflict with laws adopted by state governments."

New Jersey is one of 19 states that will lose nearly $1.6 billion in revenue as the result of what is being called 'a tax holiday' but economists say the scheme is a political ploy that rewards wealthy buyers.
One of Governor Phil Murphy’s most vocal critics is calling out the Wall Street millionaire for tricking residents instead of pursuing genuine progressive policies that make the wealthy pay a fair share and provide relief to low-income, working families.
"Sales tax holidays allow wealthy people to stock up on items without contributing to the government’s revenue stream while those struggling families that need help cannot afford to buy extra and are left behind," said Lisa McCormick, a progressive Democrat who noted that economists say such gimmicks are "poorly targeted and too temporary to meaningfully change the regressive nature of a state’s tax system."
"A sober look at these gimmicks reveals the benefits of sales tax holidays are minimal while their costs are significant," said McCormick, who said 20 states lost a combined $1 billion when they offered tax holidays a year ago.

Cross River double-cross deserves corporate welfare clawback
A bank that New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy once hailed for being at “the forefront of the innovation economy” received a cease-and-desist order from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) for what the regulator characterized as “unsafe or unsound banking practices” and a Garden State progressive is calling on officials to take back millions of dollars in corporate welfare.
According to the FDIC, Cross River “engaged in the unsafe or unsound banking practices” in connection with fair lending rules by “failing to establish and maintain internal controls.”
In 2019, Cross River received a Grow NJ grant from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) to expand its operations with the purchase of office space in Fort Lee but progressive Democrat Lisa McCormick said that funding was just another example of corporate welfare.
The attention brought by the FDIC action shows that such wasteful subsidies for the undeserving rich are often directed at disreputable and unworthy corporations.

Mechanism proposed to designate insurrectionists subject to 14th Amendment.
A progressive New Jersey Democrat has proposed a formal mechanism to designate who is barred from holding federal or state office for taking part in an insurrection that is subject to the 14th Amendment.
According to Lisa McCormick, the 14th Amendment, adopted in 1868, bars anyone who "shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against" the United States from holding office but it fails to specify who has the authority to make that determination.
McCormick proposed that a bipartisan commission should review evidence of insurrection and make a determination whether to disqualify a person from office. The panel would be composed of three members from each party, appointed by a group of respected individuals whose responsibility of selecting the members would help to ensure that the commission is seen as credible.

New Jersey environmentalist Lisa McCormick called for the prosecution of fossil fuel executives responsible for the climate crisis, the nationalization of oil companies, and for using their resources to fund a transition to renewable energy sources.
McCormick, a progressive Democrat who ran in New Jersey's 2018 Democratic primary for US Senate, accused the fossil fuel industry of knowingly damaging the planet for decades while misleading the public and influencing Congress to weaken environmental regulations.
In response to concerning campaign contribution figures, McCormick reiterated her call for nationalizing oil companies. She emphasized that the industry has spent billions of dollars to block climate change action, using money and political influence to deceive the public and harm the environment.
"The fossil fuel industry has too much power in Washington," said McCormick. "We need campaign finance reform to remove big money from politics, break up the fossil fuel industry, and invest in clean energy."

Lisa McCormick has ambitious plan for state-of-the-art mass transit development
In a bid to tackle the looming climate crisis and provide a much-needed economic advantage to workers, Lisa McCormick, a prominent advocate for sustainable development, has unveiled an ambitious plan to install a state-of-the-art mass transit system that would replace the current automobile-based transportation network.
"My proposal is a precautionary measure to curb the detrimental effects of climate change while fostering a more efficient and worker-centric transportation infrastructure by replacing the current automobile-based network," said McCormick, renowned for her environmental activism and commitment to social justice. "I believe that transitioning away from the over-reliance on automobiles and trucks is not only crucial for mitigating climate disaster but it also presents a unique opportunity to reshape the economic landscape. By investing in a radically new mass transit system, we may create new jobs, reduce traffic congestion, and improve overall air quality."
Under McCormick's proposal, the mass transit system would encompass a comprehensive network of trains, buses, and light rail, designed to provide reliable, affordable, and sustainable transportation options for both urban and suburban areas.
The plan emphasizes the integration of renewable energy sources to power the system, with a specific focus on clean solar and wind technologies.
Read moreTake a stand against the failed promises of Reaganomics
In light of the alarming change in Americans' earnings-to-cost-of-living ratio when compared to five decades ago, and the ever-mounting national debt, political activist Lisa McCormick is taking a stand against the failed promises of Reaganomics.
McCormick has called on officials to reverse the damaging effects of Reaganomics and restore New Deal and Great Society-style programs to ensure a fair and prosperous future for all Americans.
"Reaganomics, the economic policies implemented during the presidencies of Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, promised significant benefits for the American people," said McCormick. "However, recent data highlighting the growing disparity between earnings and the cost of living reveals a stark reality: Reaganomics has failed to deliver on its promises. The average American is finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet and achieve financial stability in today's economy."
"In 1968, the average price of a new car accounted for approximately 36% of the median income, making automobile ownership a more realistic goal for a broader segment of the population," said McCormick. "However, as of March 2023, the average car price comprises a staggering 84% of the median income, signifying a significant decline in affordability."
