Karoline Leavitt's lies undermine democracy
The recent statement from Karoline Leavitt, claiming the Democratic Party is made up of "Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals," is more than just a horrific lie. It is a dangerous and calculated weaponization of fear that must be condemned for what it is: a strategic tool to undermine our democracy.
This isn't a simple mistake or an isolated bit of mudslinging. It is a core part of Donald Trump's un-American political strategy. By falsely painting their opponents as evil, the GOP creates a fake crisis. They tell their supporters that our country is under attack from within by these invented demons.
Why? Because if political rivals are not just citizens with different ideas, but are instead "terrorists" and "criminals," then one can justify almost any action against them. This false emergency is being used to rationalize a brutal consolidation of power. It is the classic excuse of the would-be autocrat: we must break the rules to save the country from this "evil."

The ultimate goal is to impose a specific, extreme agenda that the majority of Americans would never freely accept. This agenda trades our freedoms for a rigid authoritarianism, where the government polices personal lives, and replaces our pluralistic democracy with a theocracy that imposes one narrow religious view on everyone.
They are using a big lie to make a power grab, hoping we won't notice the "why" behind the horror of their words.
Americans must see this rhetoric for what it is—not just an insult, but the opening argument for tyranny. It is the first, crucial step in a well-worn playbook: dehumanize your opponents, invent a national emergency, and then use that fear to justify breaking the very rules that protect our liberty. It is designed to make us accept the unacceptable.
To prevent this, we must act. We must participate relentlessly in every election, from school board to president, and support candidates who uphold democratic norms. We must subscribe to and trust legitimate, fact-based journalism over inflammatory propaganda. We must strengthen our own civic knowledge to recognize when our institutions are under attack, and build broad alliances with anyone, regardless of party, who still believes in the rule of law.
We must also recognize that among the people we expect to be on our side, there are confederates who are only pretending to fight, consistently losing battle after battle, as if our government were a professional wrestling match. Such do-nothing Democrats are bought and paid for. They serve the same plutocratic parasites and should be identified by their billionaire contributors.
Americans need not merely to win a political argument, but we must defend the Republic itself from those who would break it to gain power.
